Ever since he was drafted 13th overall in the 2015 NHL Draft by the Bruins, Jakub Zboril has been under a microscope.

The defenseman is still just 22, and he’s still developing. But he showed he made major strides during the Bruins’ training camp this year, when he was the last defensemen cut just before the Bruins left on their season-opening four-game road trip.

Matt Kalman, co-host of The Skate Podcast, caught up with Zboril in Providence this week for a Bonus Skate Podcast episode. The Providence Bruins, who won their first two games on the road last weekend, will hold their home opener on Saturday at the Dunkin Donuts Center.

“It meant a lot,” Zboril said about making it on the Bruins roster until the end of camp. “I was coming to the camp this year to make an impact, show myself the best I could and I came ready. And I’m glad that they noticed how hard I worked on myself over the summer and they rewarded me to stay with them until the end.

“Sadly I was sent down, but they have a really, really solid D corps and it’s really hard to crack those spots open. So right now I’m down here and I’ll just be working on myself the way I was doing all summer. So when I get that chance, to be prepared.”

Zboril got two NHL games last season with Boston, and it would appear he’ll be the top candidate for a callup when and if the Bruins have an injury to their defense corps.
