It was going to happen sooner or later. Sooner won out Sunday afternoon.

With C.J. Beathard headed to the sideline with 1:07 left in his 49ers' game against Seattle after being hit by Seahawks defensive lineman Michael Bennett, San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan turned to Jimmy Garoppolo to finish things off.

The appearance was, of course, Garoppolo's first since being acquired by the 49ers from the Patriots for a 2018 second-round pick. The former Pats quarterback didn't disappoint.

Garoppolo participated in three plays, completing a pair of passes for 19 yards while also running for four yards. The brief stint was punctuated when the signal-caller connected with Louis Murphy as time expired for a 10-yard touchdown pass. The TD finished off a 24-13 loss for the one-win 49ers.

Before exiting, Beathard completed 22-of-38 passes for 201 yards.
